Welcome to the Astolat Lodge No. 5848 website.
Founded in 1942. Astolat Lodge No. 5848 is a Masonic lodge based in Guildford, Surrey and under the governing body of The United Grand Lodge of England.
The name (Astolat) derives from the ancient term for the town of Guildford within the legendary tales of King Arthur.
We regularly meet at the Guildford Masonic Centre, Weybourne House in Guildford. This modern purpose-built Masonic hall boasts 4 lodge meeting rooms, a large dining room with welcoming bar area for members and visitors. As well as 5 formal meetings each year, members also attend casual meetings on Monday evenings, and many social events for lodge members and guests all year-round.
Freemasonry itself can mean different things to each of those who join.
For some, it’s about making new friends and meeting interesting people that you would not necessarily have done outside Freemasonry. It will certainly add a rich social dimension to your life.
For others, it is about being able to give to deserving causes, making a contribution to those in need.
For most, it is an enjoyable hobby.
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest fraternal and charitable organisations. A society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values. Its members are taught its principles (moral lessons and self-knowledge) through participation in ceremonies and a progression of allegorical plays.
Freemasonry instils in its members a moral and ethical approach to life: its values are based on integrity, kindness, honesty and fairness.
Members are urged to regard the interests of the family as paramount but, importantly, Freemasonry also teaches concern for others and care for those less fortunate.
